Outreach at RUMC might be defined as the act of reaching out and extending services beyond their usual limits. Our commitment to "Sharing the Joy of Christ" fuels our concern for the needs of others. A strong emphasis on mission allows the congregation to provide physical, spiritual, and emotional support to people in the communtiy, the nation, and the world. Contact one of our ministers to volunteer.
Local Outreach
SafeHouse - A home for battered women
Big Oak Ranch - home for students
Children’s Home - activities for children
Family Connection - befriending, tutoring children and youth
My Place - school for homeless children in Birmingham
Church of the Reconciler - multicultural church serving the homeless
Southwest Center- volunteer at inner city youth center
Lay Ministry– visit in hospitals
Our Campus
Great Days of Service - two big days of service a year at RUMC
Hispanic Ministry – Tutor in English, using computer programs or help with other needs
Lay Involvement– covers a variety of opportunities to serve in all areas of church functions and ministry
Older Adults
Good Samaritans - call on shut-ins visit in nursing homes
Forever Young Fellowship-social events, trips, and retreats for senior adult
Less Fortunate
Angel Tree - provide Christmas for the needy
Firehouse Mission - prepare meals for them
Oak Mountain Missions- bring food to green mission bins or volunteer to sort donations
Meals on Wheels - deliver hot meals to needy
Habitat for Humanity- help build housing for low income persons
Urban Ministries - help with distribution of meals, food, clothing, in West End

Russian Mission – Sponsor Orphanage and individual children in Sudislavl
Project Hope – sponsoring homeless children in Kenya
SIFAT - (Servants In Faith And Technology)
UMCOR - (United Methodist Committee On Relief) responds to natural disasters at home and around the world
VIM - (Volunteers In Mission) sending out teams
