Our local area tornado, hurricane, and severe storm Disaster Response Ministry was initially established to serve in Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. More recently our teams have served in Pleasant Grove, Pratt City, Clay and Center Point, Alabama immediately after and for extensive duration following the tornadoes of April 27, 2011 and January 23, 2012 that so devastated those communities.
We stand ready to assist any in need in our surrounding local area following weather-related disasters with skilled chainsaw “cutters” and able-bodied debris removal “pickers.” Through a coalition with other area United Methodist Churches (specifically Riverchase, Asbury, Canterbury, and Clay) we have added additional manpower and more extensive debris removal capabilities thanks to the availability of skid steers with grapple attachments that the Asbury and Canterbury congregations own.
If you have need of the services that this ministry can offer, or if you would like to volunteer to help when we are called upon to do so, please contact Bob Thompson, our Disaster Response Ministry Coordinator, telephone 205-276-3030; or e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our missions work at RUMC is overseen by Associate Pastor John Ray, telephone 205-397-3012. John's email address is email@example.com.
